Ever seen couples so madly in love with each other, in short The Perfect examples to follow and then suddenly you hear a separation happened?
Our system of thoughts, response, perception, interpretation and conviction makes up our belief system but is also influenced by our background, culture and past experiences. This is the origin of ASSUMPTION.
She saw the beautiful secretary come out of the office, she walks in and meets her husband zipping up and all sweaty. She puts two and two and assumes her husband is cheating.
He comes in, meets his wife smiling at he phone, he drags the phone and reads an SMS stating this "my darling, it's been a while. I really had fun today. Hope we could see each other more". He picks offence and accuses her.
She walks in and meets a condom on her son's bed. She is furious and begins to throw a tantrum.
So many examples of the dangers of Assumptions and Presuppositions. Let's revisit each scenario;
1) Her husband was in intense spiritual warfare. Praying for his home and unborn children. His secretary walks in and meets him praying and then turned to leave. As soon as she went out, he ends his prayers and discovers his zippers were worn out and attempts fixing it, wife enters!
2) Wife went on official assignment. Stumbled into her cousin at the carpark. She hurriedly concluded official matters and went to the cinema with him. She got home planning to gist her husband of the sudden encounters with her big bro when his text message came in. She smiled, reliving the memories of their outing... Husband walks in!
3) Son always wondered why mommy says premarital sex is bad. Friends give him condom to explore. He brings it home to show mommy for further discussion. Mommy sees it before he explains and panics that her son had not been paying attention all these while and had been sleeping around whereas son is still a virgin.
Common errors in those stories were Assumptions based on a previously innate mindset. The major hindrance to growth is presupposition that grows into assumption.
As a person, constantly purge yourself with the Word so that it becomes the mirror through which you see yourself.
NB: Many times our presumptions are stemmed from our ideologies that have become a stronghold. Never come into His Presence with assumptions. David prayed that God should deliver him from presumptuous sins. If David could pray that, then we need to watch it.
